My Book Day

On the morning of Thursday, May 16, 2024 hundreds of First Graders from across the district filed into the Eden Prairie High School PAC Auditorium for My Book Day. This event is a 20 year partnership between the Eden Prairie Noon Rotary, the Foundation for Eden Prairie Schools, and the Eden Prairie School District with the goal of instilling in each First Grader the love and importance of reading. FEPS helps, through a FEPS Community Partnership Grant, to fund a book for every First Grader to cherish forever, and through a series of activities during My Book Day, the students learn from High Schoolers how reading has been an important part of their life and success. The First Graders were treated to Chemistry Experiments, Robotics Demonstrations, and a narrated play “Good Queen Sue” about a little girl who showed everyone the joy of reading. At the end of the event, we challenged every First Grader to read every day this Summer — so our Second Grade Teachers next year will hopefully report that “Lots of Reading” took place over the Summer in Eden Prairie.
