Grants in Action: Technology and Teaching Combine for Autistic Student’s Successmichael-and-scotty-at-table

Last school year, the Foundation funded a smart board for Forest Hills special education teacher Scotty Johnson to use with his students. Mr. Johnson has creatively incorporated the technology into his teaching and taught his students how to use the table to enhance communication and reading skills.

That tool helped Michael, a fourth grader, to successfully become a reader. According to Michael’s parents, Leslie and Peter Palmieri, his prior teacher in another state told them that their son couldn’t read.

One family has witnessed the direct benefit of a grant awarded by the Foundation for Eden Prairie Schools.  Your donation funds those grants.  Join us – Donate!

Now, says Michael’s parents, “Our son uses a framework to communicate that comes directly from the technology and techniques Mr. Johnson introduced to him.”

Leslie Palmieri expressed her gratitude. “The Foundation for Eden Prairie Schools awarded [Mr. Johnson] a grant for the smart table from which my son demonstrated his ability to read! We are so grateful for Mr. Johnson, for Forest Hills Elementary, and for the Foundation for making this possible.”
